Abstract
Accepted 8th May, 2014
About 1.6 million people die every year from diarrheal diseases attributable to lack of access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation and 90% of these are children under 5, mostly in developing countries. Arranging the safe drinking water is some time difficult due to distance and supply. At those conditions nearby availability was preferred by the community and suffer from diseases. In these aspects an attempted has been made to treat the local availability of drinking water by Ocimum sanctum. The sample was collected from different locations like river, lake, ground and well. The extract of Ocimum sanctum shows 99% of microbial reduction at 12hours with 500mg/l mass loading.
